Nog meer beveiligingscamera's in Leuven? Neen dank u!

De lokale politie van Leuven is vast van plan het aantal beveiligingscamera's in de binnenstad op te voeren van 21 naar een zeventigtal. Is Leuven zo onveilig? Helpen camera's criminaliteit terug te dringen? Heeft "wie niets te verbergen heeft, niets te vrezen"? Drie maal volmondig neen. Maar op de gemeenteraad van aanstaande maandag 30 januari zullen deze vragen hoogst waarschijnlijk niet gesteld worden. Alhoewel Groen reeds heeft aangegeven tégen te stemmen, hoor ik hen voorlopig niets zeggen over de zware inbreuk op de privacy die de huidige en bijkomende camera's zijn.

Herinnert u zich privacy nog? Dat was een idee dat ooit bestond, ergens in de 20e eeuw. Gelukkig hebben Facebook en Google ons ondertussen in de 21e eeuw gedragen en dit ouwbollige concept begraven.
